Plesk: Using an external email address for password recovery
There is a new feature on Plesk-hosted email accounts where you can set up an External email address to use for email password recovery.
This way email users can reset their own email account's password.
1- Adding an external email address:
If a Plesk-hosted primary email address is: "name@yourdomain.com"
Go the hosting Plesk panel URL for the domain, the URL looks like: https://psaXXX.his.com:8443/
Once logged in:
-
Click on the Mail tab, then on Mail Accounts.
-
Select the account you want to work with.
-
Double-click to edit the account "name@yourdomain.com"
-- Make sure the option "Can be used to log in to Plesk" is checked.
-- Specify a valid external email address, like "somename@anotherdomain.com". It can be accessed to retrieve a message to reset the password if they lose access to the primary email address. -
Click OK to save.
That is it.
Once this is done, if these users lose their primary email account's passwords, they will be able to use the "Forgot your password?" link located on the hosting Plesk panel login page.
2- Recover the password using the an external email address
-
Go to the Panel login page at https://psaXXX.his.com:8443/,
-
Click on the "Forgot your password?" link, on the next Retrieve password page:
-
Enter their Plesk-hosted primary domain email address: i.e. "name@yourdomain.com".
-
An email with a password reset link will be sent to them at the associated registered external email address "somename@anotherdomain.com".
-
Use the information contained in the email to reset their primary email address password.
Note: Be patient: it takes a few minutes for the email to arrive.
If the password does not arrive within 1 hour, contact the Plesk Administrator for your domain.
