Updating host server name in Thunderbird

You will need to update the host name twice; Once in Incoming mail settings then in Outgoing Mail settings.

  • Open Thunderbird.

Incoming Mail Settings

  • Navigate to Tools > Account Settings
  • Select the account you want to work with
  • Select Server Settings
  • Click in the Field: Server Name and delete the old name
  • Type in the new host server name carefully.

Outgoing Mail Settings

  • Navigate to Tools > Account Settings
  • Select the account you want to work with.
  • Scroll Down to the bottom.
  • Click on Edit SMTP Server next to "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
  • Click in the Field: Server Name and delete the old name.
  • Type in the new host server name carefully.
  • Make sure the username is filled in for Authentication.
  • Click OK

Close Account Settings (Click on the X to close the window).
Close Thunderbird and restart it.

Confirm you can receive mail and send it using the new server name.
